This season’s Fashion Week here in New York was my favorite to date. I had the pleasure of attending so many great shows and having my best fashion week experience ever.
This Fall, I attended two shows that featured younger models, much younger, as in toddlers. I had the best time at these shows, the children modeling just made my day each time. It was a refreshing change from the shows I am used to seeing. The first show I saw was Vicky’z by designer Xu Xinyin. Her parent-child collection was titled ‘Our Lotus’. This collection contained women’s and coordinating children’s evening wear. The boys wore tailored blazers while the young girl’s dresses contained ruffles and embroidery. There were many “mother-daughter” looks that inspired me for future outfits with my Chloe. All her pieces were elegant and perfectly tailored using fine silk fabrics. I really loved this collection. In addition to the children’s wear, the women’s dresses were beautiful and stunning.
The second show I attended, which also had adorable child models, was by designer, Jia Liu. Her show, titled Comme Tu Es, is French for “come as you are”. This was also a parent & kid collection. This collection highlighted street wear for the entire family and had more casual attire. The collection included pieces with emoji’s, sporty jackets, and black and white dresses. The outfits were playful yet stylish.
One other show I want to mention is the Tracy Reese Spring 2018 presentation. This did not have child models but instead had models of various ethnicities of different shapes and sizes. This collection was inspired by the different stories women have to offer, each filled with personal triumphs and disappointments. Each model was encouraged to speak aloud what they felt was their inner truth, in whichever language they felt most comfortable. Each model’s unique beauty represented the unique beauty found in every women. Not only was this presentation amazing, the clothes were incredible as well. This collection was filled with bold colors, exciting prints, bright white pieces, and handcrafted embellishments. This collection celebrates the feminine spirit and I could see myself in every piece. This, by far, was my favorite collection.
For my first fashion week outfit, I kept it simple with white Theory slacks and sleeveless blazer with a pink lace top. I was running around all over the city so it was important to stay comfortable.
