At the end of 2019, I went for a Lasik consultation to see if I would be a candidate for the procedure. Fortunately, I qualified for Lasik and I immediately signed up for my Health Savings account at work for the next year. Fast forward to 2020 and we experienced the craziest year ever. I called Manhattan Lasik center to make sure it was safe and okay for me to come in still. Last September, I went and had the LASIK procedure and I couldn’t be happier.
This was one of the best decisions I ever made. I began wearing glasses when I was in the fourth grade. They were those thick lens with the big pink frames. My parents obviously weren’t concerned about style. For as long as I can remember, I couldn’t not see clearly. It was difficult for me to make out someone’s face as they walked in the door or even on the television. Seeing the alarm clock in the morning was frustrating but what really led me to this decision, was the fact that I couldn’t see my girls faces from across our room first thing in the morning. I knew it was time to have the Lasik procedure.
Going to Manhattan Lasik Center in New York City is a decision I am very happy with. The ophthalmologist was very clear and helpful. He answered all my questions and made me feel at ease when I came in the day of the procedure. You are required to not wear any contacts and only glasses instead two weeks before your appointment. The day of the procedure, it started with them taking various measurements of my eye as well as going over the procedure and how the day would go. Then it was time to go into the main operating room.
I became excited and was ready to go. I walked into the room and there was a large machine that you lay down on. The entire procedure was finished in less than twenty minutes. During, I could see a bright green light approach my eye but felt no pain. It was over quickly and I was led out to a dark room to rest before heading home. You definitely need someone there with you to get home with.
They made sure I was comfortable the entire time I was there. They ensure everyone is comfortable and will wait before proceeding. I wasn’t nervous though but excited. I thought the entire process was pretty incredible. The idea that these painless lasers are able to correct my vision and allow me to see with my own eyes, is still astounding to me. I
left with a pair of goggles to protect my eyes and a sleep aid so that I would go straight to sleep when I got home. The next morning, I saw clearly for the first time I could ever remember. It was so emotional for me, in a good way. I went from always needing contacts or glasses, to be given the sight I deserve, makes this Lasik experience one of the best things I have done in my life. I could wake up and see my girls smiling at me from across the room.
